A welcome from the organisers

Dear NOPHO/NOBOS friends, colleagues, invited speakers, guests and sponsors.

On behalf of the organizing committee for the 34th annual NOPHO meeting and 11th biannual NOBOS meeting, we wish you all welcome to Reykjavik. This will be the 5th meeting of NOPHO in Iceland but the first time a joint NOPHO/NOBOS meeting is held here.

Although we have seen major improvements in outcome for our patients during recent decades, many challenges remain. We as doctors and nurses are reminded of this on a daily basis and are often faced with difficult questions on treatment and possible adverse effects. We also have to find time and money for basic and clinical research, including registration of patients and international collaboration. These issues and challenges are reflected in the choice of themes for our meeting and to discuss them we have invited a group of distinguished speakers from both sides of the Atlantic and from the Nordic countries.

The friendship and collaboration between the Nordic countries goes back a long way and is well known. This is also true within NOPHO and NOBOS and is an important factor in improving the care of our patients. We hope this meeting, including the social program, will help to strengthen our bonds, have fun with old friends and meet new ones.

Practical information

Climate/Time/Daylight

Thanks to the Gulf Stream, Iceland enjoys a cool temperate ocean climate: cool in summer and relatively mild in winter. Average summer temperature ranges from 10 to 13°C. The weather, however, is rather unpredictable and guests should come prepared for the unexpected i.e. occasional showers or stiff winds.

Iceland is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) throughout the year and does not switch to "daylight saving time" during summer. Sunset in the May is at around 22:20 and sunrise again around 04:30.

Clothing

When travelling in Iceland a warm sweater and weatherproof coat or jacket is essential. Also bring your swimming suit for the outdoor swimming pools heated with geothermal water. Iceland is a wild country and good walking shoes and an informal wear are a must.

Arriving in Iceland at Keflavík International Airport

The Flybus airport shuttle will take you from Keflavík International Airport to Reykjavik city and vice versa. The Flybus is connected to all arriving and departing flights at Keflavík airport. Seats are always guaranteed. Keflavík Airport is in 55 km distance from Reykjavík.

Call for abstracts

The NOBOS Committee invites you to give an oral or poster presentation during the NOBOS Congress in Reykjavík, 27. – 31. May 2016.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is February 1^st, 2016. This deadline will be strictly observed. The Abstract Committee will review abstracts for an oral or poster presentation and notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent via e-mail to the corresponding author by March 15^th, 2016

The presentations must be given in English. No interpretation will be provided.

All posters will be considered for the 'Best Poster Awards'.
